Daily Program
This option is for those school groups who wish to have an introduction to the development of basic outdoor adventure skills. This is a real active fun option for an end of term "day out¡" - with plenty of thrills and spills along with some skills learning.
Choose from the sample choices / days out below which are a guideline only. We are happy to discuss the specific format of your program and incorporate the needs of your group and project.
- Open Canoeing - Introduction (Monday & Tuesday)
- Rock Climbing (Monday & Tuesday)
- Hill Walking (Wednesday & Saturday)
- Kayaking - Introduction (Wednesday & Saturday)
- Dinghy Sailing (Thursday & Friday)
- Mountain Biking (Any day)
These activity days normally run from early May 2007 until mid September 2007. All activities are available on request on all other days with a minimum booking of 4 students.
Outdoor Adventure Skills Development Days
Daily Program
This option is for those school groups who wish to develop basic skills already learnt with us or elsewhere. These one day sessions are an excellent way to have a short high input outdoor skills development. Choose from the sample choices / days out below which are a guideline only. We are happy to discuss the specific format of your program and incorporate the needs of your group and project.
- Open Canoeing - Introduction (Monday & Tuesday)
- Open Canoe Day Tours - Loch or River (Tuesday & Wednesday)
- Rock Climbing (Monday & Tuesday)
- Hill Walking (Wednesday & Saturday)
- Kayaking - Introduction (Wednesday & Saturday)
- White Water River Tours (Kayaking) (Thursday & Friday)
- Dinghy Sailing (Thursday & Friday)
- High Summer Mountain Walking (Saturday & Sunday)
- Mountain Biking (Any day)
These activity days normally run from early May 2007 until mid September 2007. All activities are available on request on all other days with a minimum booking of 4 students.
Learning Outcomes | For younger age groups we provide specially tailored day programmes with specifically targeted and focused learning outcomes directed at some of these identified below:
- personal goal setting & personal challenges,
- trust & communication;
- issues of team work, personal challenges,
- practical skills for living in and travelling through a natural outdoor environment,
- team work, personal organisation, co-operation, improvisation;
- group challenges;
- best use of outdoor equipment & clothing to extend personal comfort;
- experiencing a variety of outdoor environments;
Through hill walking, sailing or open canoeing, navigation, abseiling, kayaking, sea kayaking, mountain biking
- Knowledge & skills relating to Navigation, weather, wild life or landforms
- Leadership, team work, practical living skills, personal organisation & working as part of a group
- Communication, co-operation & listening skills, effective group discussions
- Understanding Earth Cycles, Elements & Forces for example: Erosion; the Water Cycles; The Earth Elements of wind / sun / water / heat.
- Discovering & Understanding the past Historic, Economic & Social developments in remote areas.
- Introducing & developing core personal outdoor skills.
- Understanding key conservation issues, accessing resources & assessing environmental impacts of outdoor activities & wildlife tourism.
Level of Activity | The prices here apply only to Beginner / Improver levels of taster days ¨C where the standard ratios will apply. Where a lower ratio is required on intermediate or advanced skills training, then our more advanced fees will apply.
Age Limits | Juniors are 16 yrs and under. Our usual minimum age is 8 years. Minimum age unaccompanied by a parent is 8 yrs on a day only basis. For multi day courses ¨C from our experience - we are more comfortable working with youngsters of 14yrs plus.
Maximum Ratios | In order that you can gain maximum benefit from these sessions we limit numbers to 1 instructor to 6 or 8 clients - depending on the activity.
Minimum Numbers | We usually only run an activity with minimum of 3 persons.
Times | Sessions start 9.15 am to 12.30 noon or 1.30 pm to 4.30 p.m. We are usually back at our base by 5.00pm at the latest. The number of days booked can be any within a 7 day period. You will need a packed lunch / flask / something to drink on the full days activity.
NOTE | We do not recommend rock climbing or High Mountain Walking as a half day activity - we do not consider that these are practical or value for money.
